Working In The City

The chemical and pharmaceutical industries are some of the largest employers in the city. Global brands include Novartis, Roche, Syngenta and Clariant and Ciba.

Zurich is also known for its financial services with companies such as Zurich Financial Services and Swiss Re based in the city.

A bilateral agreement between the Swiss government and the European Union (EU) now makes it more straightforward for EU citizens to work in the country. Switzerland is planning to scrap work visa requirements for EU citizens in 2014.

For non EU residents they need to possess skills that are not available among the local population. UN employees are issued with a carte de legitimation which entitles the bearer to live in Switzerland for the duration of their employment.

Things To Do

Lake Zurich is a popular destination and in the summer many find the lake the perfect place for swimming and boating. Between the main railway station and lake Zurich are some of the city's most popular visitor sights including churches and historic buildings.

The main shopping area is Bahnhofstrasse where a number of large department stores can be found.
